We’re absolutely thrilled to share that this week we’re welcoming our very first artist in residence to Horatio’s Garden Midlands!

With our plans for residencies disrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic throughout the past year, we’re incredibly excited by the prospect of soon seeing Claire Waltier MacGillivray safely popping into the garden.

She will be beginning her residency on Wednesday 12th May and will be in the garden from 12pm – 5pm. She will then be holding regular workshops on a weekly basis for six weeks initially, the dates of which are yet to be confirmed.

Claire is an artist, designer and illustrator based in Cheshire, with her preferred medium being watercolours. Her subjects tend to be natural, often focussing on flowers, whilst she uses vivid shades in her backgrounds to truly bring her beautiful works to life. She has experience in fine art, art education and textile design, which influences her uplifting, boldly understated style.

Colour is at the heart of all of Claire’s work and this is something she hopes will gently encourage patients in Horatio’s Garden Midlands to try creating watercolours of their own, or to pursue other artistic mediums.

Her first session will be a gentle introduction to the world of watercolours, with Claire painting colour charts to show everyone the technique involved in mixing various tints and tones. She will also be bringing some of her own work to prompt conversation with patients and is looking forward to seeing and hearing all about which plants inspire them in the garden.

It will be a joy to see Claire working with people in Horatio’s Garden Midlands and we are so grateful to her for helping everyone, as well as the charity as a whole, to embark on a new creative journey.
