Our volunteers support thousands of people adjusting to life-changing spinal injuries right across the UK. Discover how they provide vital support to people in our gardens and what makes being a part of our volunteer team so rewarding.

I just love being in and around the peaceful setting and talking to newly injured people, as well as their families and friends, offering them support and advice as they come to terms with this life-changing event.

I just love it here. It’s a beautiful garden. I’m Ryan, and I am a volunteer here at Horatio’s Belfast....

That’s why Horatio’s Garden is so special. When you’re in hospital for such a long time, it’s so important to have somewhere to go. I know it would’ve made such a difference for me and I see it making a difference for so many people from across Dorset and the south west every time I’m there volunteering.

Volunteering here’s been a real eye-opener. I came thinking I’d be helping out, which I hope I am, but I didn’t realise how much it would give back to me too.

As you get older, life closes in a bit; you lose friends, travel becomes harder. But there is still so much to enjoy every day. This garden, and the people in it, are part of that for me.

Meet Terry. We're sharing his story to celebrate Volunteers' Week 2024, so why not spend a moment discovering a little more about what inspired him to join our volunteer team in Horatio's Garden London & South East.
Our dedicated volunteers are the heart of Horatio’s Garden. They nurture our gardens to bloom and blossom, whilst supporting patient’s physical and emotional health with care and consideration.
