On Monday 20th May we were delighted to welcome The Lord High Commissioner, His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch to Horatio’s Garden Scotland.

Head Gardener Sallie, Volunteer Co-ordinator Yvonne, and a host of patients and volunteers were making the most of the sunshine in the garden, offering the Duke an authentic Horatio’s Garden experience. The whole team worked incredibly hard in preparation for the event, which the Duke recognised as he was given a tour of the space. He was incredibly complimentary of the garden and of the charity as a whole.

Throughout the afternoon the Duke spent time chatting with patients as he was keen to find out more about what Horatio’s Garden meant to each of them. He also took a particular interest in the afternoon’s garden therapy session, with patients planting numerous pots and creating this lovely floral arrangement to mark the occasion.

The Duke concluded his visit by signing our Visitor’s Book and having a nice cup of tea with Sallie in true Horatio’s Garden spirit! He was also gifted a Aruncus Horatio from the garden, which he has since planted and is now safely nestled in its new home at The Palace of Holyroodhouse.

It was a gorgeous afternoon enjoyed by all and we thank the Duke for his wonderful support of Horatio’s Garden.
