With building work on Horatio’s Garden Wales due to begin in the new year in the Welsh Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre at University Hospital Llandough in Cardiff, we’ve started thinking about the plants we’d like to see populating the garden.
As designer Sarah Price is known for her artistic, naturalistic planting style, we recently paid a visit to New Wood Trees, who specialise in multi-stem boscage.
The nursery is situated in the beautiful South Devon countryside and was established in 2008. Since then, multi-stem trees have become ever more popular thanks to their architectural shape and instant aesthetic appeal.
Sarah and her team, consisting of Emma and Rachel, spent a bright and crisp day wandering the site, along with our Founder & Chair of Trustees, Dr Olivia Chapple. Together they perused the rolling hills of sculpted trees in search of those that will soon be destined for a new home in Horatio’s Garden Wales.
Fortunately, the wonderful New Wood Team were on hand to offer their guidance throughout the visit, whilst Sarah’s sensitive perspective ensured that every tree was meticulously chosen with the intention of being just perfect for patients and their loved ones to enjoy in the garden.
It was a truly lovely day and we are so grateful to New Wood Trees, Sarah, Emma and Rachel for helping to make the development of our sixth project so very special.
