Horatio’s Garden is delighted to announce the news that Princess Eugenie has become the charity’s Royal Patron. Her Royal Highness will be supporting the charity’s vision of bringing thriving gardens to all the UK’s regional spinal injuries centres. Having undergone surgery for scoliosis in 2002 at the age of 12, Princess Eugenie has had a small glimpse of how it feels to be confined to a hospital bed and understands the healing powers that gardens offer.
This news is extremely timely for Horatio’s Garden as the charity is within touching distance of raising the total funds needed to begin work on their latest garden build – Horatio’s Garden London – which will be located within the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore (RNOH) – the very place Princess Eugenie received her corrective surgery.
The Princess has already visited Horatio’s Garden in Glasgow and seen first-hand the impact of the charity’s work. Dr Olivia Chapple, Co-Founder and Chair of Trustees, said ‘We are delighted and honoured that Princess Eugenie has committed to support the charity, helping us to improve the lives of more families affected by spinal injury. When the Princess visited the garden in Glasgow in July 2017, Her Royal Highness planted a grapevine with the help of two of the patients and shared tea with everyone on a gloriously hot day. It was a wonderful occasion and we look forward to welcoming Her Royal Highness to our other gardens and events.’
