Last weekend was particularly busy in the fundraising world and one of the people getting involved in the fun in support of Horatio’s Garden was Siobhan Coyle, who braved some rather chilly waters to take part in the Swim Serpentine!

As a former patient of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, where she previously spent six weeks in recovery as a teen, Siobhan holds the charity close to her heart and knows from experience the importance of all that we do to help people affected by spinal injury.
Her stay in Stanmore occurred long before Horatio’s Garden came to be, but to this day she remembers just how much she valued being wheeled outside for some fresh air. This appreciation of nature has remained with Siobhan, and as she writes on her JustGiving page, invariably she still feels better after a stint on her allotment.
Despite being nervous ahead of her one-mile swim, Siobhan took the time to document her fundraising feat on Instagram, with her friends, family and followers all catching a glimpse of a stunning, sunshine-filled September morning.
Diving in, the nerves soon abated and Siobhan successfully completed her swim in the brilliant time of just 42 minutes, raising a fantastic total of £575 so far! Both Siobhan and we are absolutely delighted with the money raised and are enormously grateful to everyone for their support.

Siobhan is off to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show tomorrow and plans to make a beeline for our tradestand to buy herself a present for completing the Swim Serpentine. Her treat is most definitely well-deserved and we can’t wait to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Siobhan in person!
