This August, Kailee challenged herself to walk 300 miles across the UK’s 15 national parks, ending by climbing Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in the UK! Armed with only her tent, her car and her adorable dog Klaus, this was a truly unforgettable challenge.
Kailee’s mum spent nearly four months in The Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury District Hospital, following an emergency spinal surgery that left her paralysed. It was here that she encountered Horatio’s Garden South West, the charity’s first ever garden and a source of peace to countless people spending time in the spinal centre since 2012.
Discussing the importance of the garden, Kailee said: “The garden provides a safe and nurturing place to support patients. Spinal cord injuries are traumatic events and the gardens are vital places for reflection and adjustment for people facing these life-changing injuries and long stays in hospital, which Mum and our family can definitely attest to.”
Kailee set out to raise £1,500, to be split between Horatio’s Garden South West and The Eve Appeal, a gynaecological cancer charity. In the end, she raised an incredible £2,285!
Kailee and her mum will soon be visiting Horatio’s Garden South West to present the charity with their extraordinary donation, and to once again see the incredible difference it will make to hundreds of people’s lives. Thank you so much to Kailee (and to Klaus for helping her!) – your journey is so inspiring!
