On Sunday 13 October 2024, Christopher, Matt and Tim will be taking part in the Chicago Marathon to raise money for Horatio’s Garden!
In November 2019, Christopher had a spinal stroke during his sleep. He woke up paralysed, spending five months in hospital rehabilitation, and is now a T10 paraplegic with no controlled function from the waist down. He will be completing the marathon in his NHS standard issue wheelchair, accompanied by two support runners: his friend Tim, and his physical trainer Matt!
The team are taking on this immense challenge to raise money for Horatio’s Garden. Tim said: “What happened to Christopher could happen to anyone. Unfortunately, it does happen to many. Every two hours someone’s life will change with a spinal cord injury. It is a life-changing event for the individual as well as their family and friends. Through our participation in the Chicago Marathon we intend to raise money for Horatio’s Garden. This charity creates and nurtures beautiful, accessible gardens across the UK at NHS spinal injury centres. These gardens give vital places for reflection and adjustment for patients, their families and the medical staff treating them.”
The group set out to raise £1000, but have far surpassed that target weeks before race day. This is a truly incredible fundraising challenge, and we wish Christopher, Matt and Tim the best of luck – we’ll be cheering you on all the way!
