We are seeking a friendly, experienced Events Manager to join us and help deliver our new three year events strategy, focusing on high value, special events.
Horatio’s Garden nurtures the wellbeing of people after spinal injury in beautiful, vibrant sanctuaries within the heart of NHS spinal injury centres. Leading designers create the accessible gardens where the charity’s team, alongside volunteers and creatives, care for people and plants alike.
The charity is growing. With seven garden projects open, we have an eighth garden under construction in Sheffield due to open in 2025. After winning ‘Best in Show’ at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2023 with a show garden designed for people with mobility needs, the charity’s profile was significantly increased. Having developed our new three year events strategy, we are looking for someone with drive and determination who will take on the challenge of adding new opportunities to our portfolio as well as maximising the potential of our existing events which includes our annual carol concert, bi-annual art auction and RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
To support the growth in our events portfolio, we are creating a series of special events committees which will utilise our fantastic networks. Alongside our Head of Events, our Events Manager will be key in working with the committees to maximise their potential.
Main duties:
- Work closely with the Head of Events to plan, administer and deliver the charity’s programme of special events to reach income an engagement targets.
- Work with the Head of Events to create and manage a series of special event committees who will help to maximise the impact of our annual programme of events.
- Oversee budget for each event, to ensure every event meets expected income target and delivers excellent ROI.
- Work with the Head of Events, Events Assistant and special event committees to run the logistics of each event, maintaining high standards through all elements of every event.
- Write post-event analysis and present to the Head of Events and Director of Fundraising to support with strategy for future years.
- Work with the communications team to deliver excellent post-event communications to attendees.
- Contribute new ideas to the events programme to help achieve charity goals and objectives.
- Manage events on the charity’s CRM system including communications with supporters and attendance at events.
- Work with the wider team to collate guestlists and guest profiles for all events.
- Deputise for the part-time Head of Events in their absence and manage elements of the programme.
- Liaise with and support the communications team to promote the events, providing the content and collateral.
- Work closely with volunteers and identify opportunities for volunteers to support with events where appropriate.
- Attend events as required – occasional weekend and evening work is required.
General duties:
- Support the whole Horatio’s Garden team with select administrative duties that support the smooth running of the charity as appropriate.
- Actively contribute to team and organisation meetings, ensuring you use your knowledge and skills to shape the future development of Horatio’s Garden.
- Actively contribute to projects and activities across the organisation, supporting colleagues and volunteers where necessary.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience of managing a portfolio of high value special events.
- Experience of working with high level committees to deliver special events.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Positive, enthusiastic manner and creative flair.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritise to deliver projects on time and to budget.
- Experience of managing budgets and delivering projects with a good ROI.
- Ability to problem solve and think on your feet.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work successfully with volunteers, suppliers and others to deliver exceptional events.
- Excellent IT skills, including use of Excel, Word etc.. Experience of using CRM databases would be valuable.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing needs.

Salary: £32,000 – £35,000 (dependent on experience)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, over five days (Mon-Fri)
