With 1000s of inspiring gifts from a host of independent British brands, the online shop aims to be a win for charities, shoppers and small retailers.
BLB was born out of lockdown, when two fellow stallholders – Emily Bradley and Amanda Hamlyn – saw their incomes collapse as charity fairs and shopping events were cancelled overnight. Concerned about their livelihoods and the drop in funding for charities, they and their husbands, Mark and Nick, piloted a directory-style referral website. It immediately attracted over 150 brands and so BLB was born.
The success of the initial website allowed for the launch of the new BLB transactional marketplace, the only site which is capable of virtually hosting charity fairs. Its versatility enabled five virtual charity fairs to be held on Monday 2nd November 2020 alone, raising money for Macmillan, Riding for the Disabled, St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group, North West Cancer Research and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
It also aims to replicate the sense of belonging these retailers and charities felt when they were regularly meeting fellow stallholders at shopping events. As BLB grows, it intends to recreate that sense of community and mutual support, whilst simultaneously raising spirits and incomes across the UK.
The innovative website raised a phenomenal total of over £11,000 for the various charities it supported in 2020 and has already attracted thousands of shoppers looking for novel gifts and beautifully unique products.
