It was wonderful to see both Sir Matthew Pinsent and former Olympic rower Peter Reed together in Horatio’s Garden Salisbury recently, when Matthew visited to interview Peter for a string of BBC programmes.

Peter recently suffered a spinal stroke and has been spending time in the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre. He has become a regular visitor to the garden, enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, as well as chatting with other people making the most of this beautiful place.

Naturally, when Matthew and the BBC Sport team approached Peter for his first interview since his injury, the garden seemed like the perfect place for it. The crew gathered in both the garden and garden room to film the feature, which Peter later described as “challenging” but added it was “very refreshing to talk through this complex process”.

The interview is due to air on BBC 5Live Radio on Thursday 28th November and on both BBC Breakfast and then on BBC News at 11am on Saturday 30th November.

It was a privilege to hear Peter talk, a pleasure to welcome the whole team to the garden and fabulous to be able to say that our volunteers make a Sir Matthew Pinsent-approved cup of coffee (see the Visitor’s Book for proof)!
