After a brief hiatus, our Arty Afternoons are back and we’re starting with a brilliant video by artist Nell Nicholas.
Some of you may remember Nell from her short residency in Horatio’s Garden Salisbury around this time last year. She spent a week drawing and encouraging patients to embrace their creative side amongst the planting, with some truly fantastic results.
After drawing inspiration and sketching various parts of the garden, Nell has since been away and worked on a vibrant piece, which encapsulates all the colour and life to be found in Horatio’s Garden.
With her unique artistic flair, Nell also designed the charity’s 2019 Christmas Card, which was enormously popular with our supporters. As her Arty Afternoons video will reveal, her trick is focussing on the scene or object you’re drawing, rather than the drawing itself.
Despite being just 10 minutes long, Nell’s video shows how you can create a sequence of drawings in real-time. Whilst there’s the opportunity to pause and perfect your pieces if you choose, Nell demonstrates that simply giving some sketching a go and not worrying too much about how it turns out can yield a fantastic result.
We are so grateful to Nell for creating our latest video and hope it inspires everyone to pick up a pen and the nearest pad of paper!
