We were delighted to be joined by so many guests from the South Yorkshire community and beyond at The Cutlers’ Hall for a special drinks reception supporting Horatio’s Garden Sheffield & East, which will open at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital in 2024.
Actor and appeal ambassador George Robinson, who spent many months rehabilitating at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre in Sheffield, joined designers Charlotte Harris and Hugo Bugg from Harris Bugg Studio, and Dr Olivia Chapple, Founder & Chair of Trustees of Horatio’s Garden, to give guests a moving overview of the positive impact the garden will have upon the wellbeing of people after spinal injury.
Sheffield-born actor and appeal patron Dominic West, whose grandfather Sir Harold West was Master Cutler in 1952, sent a filmed message encouraging everyone to support the charity’s new Sheffield & East sanctuary.
We were honoured to be joined by so many supportive guests, including the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Lady Rowena Montagu Stuart Wortley DL representing the Lord Lieutenant, Lord Mayor Councillor Colin Ross, High Sheriff Professor Jaydip Ray DL, the Mayor of South Yorkshire Oliver Coppard, President of the Chamber of Commerce Karen Mosley and Chair of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Annette Laban.
We are very grateful to Master Cutler Charles Turner DL who generously hosted us at the elegant Old Banqueting Hall in the beautiful, historic setting of the Grade II listed Cutlers’ Hall.
Dr Olivia Chapple, Founder & Chair of Trustees of Horatio’s Garden said: “We were delighted to welcome so many guests from across the Sheffield and South Yorkshire community and beyond to discover more about Horatio’s Garden Sheffield & East, which will be a beautiful, accessible and therapeutic place for patients with life-changing spinal injuries, their families and friends, outpatients and NHS staff looking after them. We are now seeking support to raise the final half a million pounds to bring this extraordinary garden to life next year.”
A distilled version of the design by Harris Bugg Studio for Horatio’s Garden Sheffield & East won Best in Show at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023 – the first show garden designer with the requirements of people with mobility needs at its heart. The award-winning garden will form the heart of Horatio’s Garden Sheffield & East at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield in 2024. The second largest spinal injury centre in the UK, it will support an extensive geographical area from the West Midlands to East Anglia, South Yorkshire to Lincolnshire.
