We’re giving everyone the chance to join in with our new Virtual Arty Afternoons, with the aim of gently encouraging people everywhere to embrace their creative side.

The first two videos have been created by wonderful young artist, Alice Penrose, who is currently studying Biology at University of Oxford. Prior to her beginning her undergraduate degree, Alice gained a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College and continues to spend much of her time creating beautiful works between her studies.

Alice makes prints, paintings and drawings, which are all inspired by her love of the nature, a few of which you can see in the slideshow below. She believes that enjoying the process is just as important as the outcome in her observational work, which is exactly what her videos are all about. Each one calmly guides you through some simple techniques to help you to capture the beauty of plants and flowers, and is a lovely, tranquil way to spend an afternoon.

Speaking about the project, Alice shared that “Sitting outside and looking at all the details that make up a natural environment is my favourite part of producing any artwork. These videos are peaceful moments that I would like to share with the community of Horatio’s Garden during these unprecedented times”.

Patients, their loved ones, NHS staff and all our supporters are welcome to take part in the sessions. If you can’t join in tomorrow afternoon, the videos will be available for the foreseeable future, so you can simply CLICK HERE to follow along and create your own artworks whenever you like too.

We are so grateful to Alice for sharing her talent with us all and hope that you enjoy her videos. There will be more to come from other artists and photographers over the coming weeks, so please subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date!
