We are deeply saddened by the death of Lady Daunt, who died peacefully at home on Tuesday 3rd October 2023.
Lady Daunt was a writer and the wife of Sir Timothy Daunt, a former British ambassador to Turkey. After sustaining a spinal injury in Jordan in 2015, Lady Daunt spent time rehabilitating at the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore.
Upon learning of Horatio’s Garden, Lady Daunt became an incredible supporter and ambassador of the charity. Together with her lifelong friend, Charlotte Heber-Percy, the two instigated the fundraising appeal for Horatio’s Garden London & South East and were a total tour de force in encouraging people to donate.
Lady Daunt’s thoughtful generosity has changed and will continue to change thousands of people’s lives after spinal injury.
When Lady Daunt became an ambassador of Horatio’s Garden she said:
“Hospital care must be supplemented if one is ever to come to terms with irreversible paralysis from spinal injury. I longed for the outdoors with all the natural beauty of the changing seasons and the smell of damp earth: a garden is the key.”
Today we remember her extraordinary legacy.
“I will always hold on to the memories of the indomitable spirit and grace in adversity that Patricia had. Her charm captivated anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her and her kindness and thoughtfulness for others has enabled Horatio’s Garden London & South East to flourish.”
