Unknowingly, steadfast supporters Mark Lord (or Lino Lord to give him his printmaking name) and Angie Lewin both signed up to get involved in this fantastic fundraising event, which is taking place from Saturday 5th – Sunday 6th March.
The idea for the sale began with Leeds Potter Lorna Gilbert, who launched the online fundraising event last year to raise money for charities affected by the pandemic. With the inaugural Great Charity Pot Sale raising over £17,800 for 60 different charities and capturing the hearts of master potters Keith Brymer-Jones, Kate Malone and Sue Pryke, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever!
We’re enormously grateful to both Mark and Angie for generously lending their artistic talents to supporting us and whilst their work is very different, both draw inspiration from various aspects of nature.
As a Cornishman, Mark’s handprinted, original lino prints are inspired by Britain’s beautiful coastline and countryside (with some retro chic thrown in for good measure!) The piece he’s submitting to the Fair is a stunningly detailed print of a beloved bee, an insect Mark may well have encountered when photographing Horatio’s Garden Stoke Mandeville so beautifully over the years. He will be devoting 10 prints to the Fair in total, each costing £30, with 100% of the profits from each very generously donated to the charity.

Meanwhile, Angie’s much-loved prints are nationally renowned and often inspired by the skeletal plant forms seen against the sea and sky of North Norfolk and the Scottish Highlands. The piece she’s submitting is called ‘Meadow II’ and is a lithograph printed in four colours. It was editioned in 2008 at the Curwen Studio and has not been available for many years. The print she will be featuring in the Fair is therefore from her personal archive and is the last of the edition.
As Angie is now based in the Highlands of North East Scotland, she will be donating a share of the proceeds of this very special prize specifically to Horatio’s Garden Scotland.

It’s a delight to know that Mark, Angie and Alexandra will all be supporting Horatio’s Garden in this year’s Great Charity Pot and Print Fair and with the event now less than a month away, the countdown is well and truly on!
