We are delighted to introduce Ruxandra Vasile, who has joined the Horatio’s Garden team for the Summer as our new Research Intern. Below is a short piece she has written explaining a little more about herself and why she was interested in working with us.

Hello, I’m Ruxandra, one of the interns for Summer 2019! A couple of weeks ago I finished reading Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford and was offered a 6-week placement at Horatio’s Garden, partly funded by the Santander SME fund.
I will spend my time with the charity conducting patient, visitor and staff audits at the gardens in Salisbury, Glasgow and Stoke Mandeville to get a feel for how the gardens have impacted these groups of individuals. This information will be collated into reports which can be distributed to potential funders, but also to the charity’s staff, in order to show stakeholders’ wishes for future developments of the gardens.
This is the ideal internship for me, as it has a big focus on how to improve the mental health of vulnerable individuals, something which I hope I will one day be able to do as a career in the role of a Clinical Psychologist. Furthermore, being able to complete my internship at such an inspiring charity makes this work even more exciting and worthwhile.

We are very much looking forward to working with Ruxandra over the next few weeks. The reports she creates are so valuable to Horatio’s Garden, offering us the opportunity to hear the thoughts of as many patients, visitors and staff as possible throughout all our gardens.
