On their most recent visit to Horatio’s Garden Oswestry Head Gardener Imogen Jackson, Administration Assistant Brian Kilty, Operations Manager John Grinstead and Marketing Manager Kathryn Furnell were delighted to be joined by Paul Shuttleworth of BBC Radio Shropshire.
Paul was visiting the garden in order to discover more about our latest project, and also chatted with the team to find out about Horatio’s Garden as a whole. As many local people may have yet to hear of the charity, Paul had some brilliant questions for the group which allowed them to properly introduce Horatio’s Garden and our work to the county.
Imogen’s horticultural insights were of particular interest too, as the interview forms part of the station’s weekly Sunday programme ‘Gardening with Paul Shuttleworth’. Her unique perspective on the design and planting was hugely insightful, and thanks to her background in horticultural therapy too she was able to share more with listeners about how valuable a garden, and indeed gardening, is for patients.
You can listen to the various interviews the Horatio’s Garden team have done with Paul below since our Oswestry project began below:
Whilst we hope Paul will return to visit the completed garden at some point very soon, the interview also offered a rare chance for the BBC team to explore the process every landscape undergoes when making the transition from the design to the finished article. It was great to be able to acknowledge all the hard work of the construction team and reveal more about just how much thought is involved in bringing the garden to life.
It won’t be long now before Horatio’s Garden Oswestry will be open for patients and their families to enjoy at their leisure. In the meantime, we’ll be working hard to plant the space beautifully to ensure it reflects the sensitive, thoughtful designs that Bunny Guinness created many months ago.
