Last Friday, Sarah Gunn kindly organised a tour and demonstration at the Secret Herb Garden in Lothianburn, near Edinburgh.

There was a brilliant amount of interest in the event, with a good group going along to explore the garden and nursery. Whilst there was a lot to be gained by simply admiring the plants, guests welcomed the experts’ advice as they meandered the garden. Their guides eased into the day by offering the group more information and advice about the health benefits of various easy-to-grow herbs and how best to incorporate them into your lifestyle.

Guests were certainly interested in finding out how to put their newfound knowledge into practise, and a brilliant addition to the morning’s events was a demonstration of how to create and maintain a diverse ‘salad bowl’. These used a mixture of plants, herbs, and edible flowers which importantly could all be grown in anyone’s garden, so everyone could continue their love affair with all sorts of herbs long after leaving the event.

Over a delicious light lunch there were seasonally-minded discussions too, with everyone exchanging tips on how to get the most versatile results from their autumn sowing.

We are enormously grateful to Sarah for organising such a unique event and thank you to all those who attended in support of Horatio’s Garden. Your generosity means so much to the charity and to all those affected by spinal injury.
