In their own words, after one too many cocktails one Friday night, Lucy Parker and Natalja Williams decided to sign up for the Great West Run Half Marathon in May 2022 in honour of their friend Rory.

Rory was unexpectedly injured whilst he was playing on his family’s trampoline with his four-year-old daughter, Keeva, earlier this year. Having spent months rehabilitating at The Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury, Rory recently returned home, but not before he’d generously shared his story with us.

Knowing that Rory had found solace in Horatio’s Garden throughout his long stay in hospital inspired Lucy and Natalja to kindly fundraise for us. With Rory telling the two that he’s on a mission to raise money for the charity, they generously offered to help him. Together, they’re trying to make sure that we can continue to build more gardens for people affected by spinal cord injury in NHS spinal injury centres right across the UK.
With the race still a little while away, Lucy and Natalja are just beginning their training regime and have set up their JustGiving page so that people can support them right from the off.

We are so grateful to Lucy, Natalja and Rory for all they’re doing to help us and wish them all the very best with their fabulous fundraising efforts over the coming months!
