We hope you enjoyed watching BBC Gardeners’ World on Friday 27th September 2019!

We were delighted to welcome Joe Swift back to Horatio’s Garden Stoke Mandeville, along with the rest of the team from the beloved BBC Gardeners’ World.

The team filmed all day in the beautifully sunny garden, working hard to capture the unique atmosphere permeating this wonderful space. With life going on as usual in the garden, the crew had an authentic opportunity to see and record all that happens in just one extraordinary day in Horatio’s Garden.

Patients, staff, and volunteers were all coming and going throughout the day, often stopping in for a spot of tea and some delicious cake, as well as making the most of the gorgeous weather. The sights, smells and sounds of the garden at this time of year are particularly spectacular too, something which both visitors and the Gardeners’ World team could appreciate.

Two patients were filmed chatting with Joe about their experience and joy of being in the garden, and he made many patients’ days by simply talking to them and offering his gardening pearls of wisdom to anyone who was interested.

Head Gardener, Jacqui Martin-Löf, shared that it was an emotional day as “it was special to share the garden, to see the garden appreciated, and reflect on the tremendous impact that Horatio’s Garden is having on the lives of so many.”

Thanks to the Gardeners’ World team, we will be able to introduce many more people across the country to the amazing benefits our gardens offer each and every day. As it is not possible for many of us to experience this positivity first-hand, we are so pleased that this programme will offer everyone a brief insight into just how valuable Horatio’s Garden is.
