Professional artist Keith Jansz, a world-renowned mouth painter, will be painting in Horatio’s Garden Stoke Mandeville on Thursday 10th October from 12pm – 5pm.

Keith feels a connection with this particular garden as he previously spent six months in the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville following a car accident in 1995. When Keith returned home after his time in hospital, he began the painful process of adjusting to his new situation. It was during this time that he was given the gift of a book of biographies of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, which inspired him to try holding a brush in his mouth. Despite disastrous early efforts, Keith persevered and progressed rapidly, surprising himself by painting in oils and sketching in pastel and charcoal. He began to develop his individual style, which was inspired by his Impressionist heroes and often explores sensations of light.

Since then, Keith’s works have been reproduced around the world and his paintings have been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in various locations, including the UK, the US, Italy, Shanghai, Vienna and Mexico City. He has also supported Horatio’s Garden by generously donating two beautiful works to both our 2018 and 2019 Chelsea Secret Art Sale.

Patients, visitors, staff of the NSIC and volunteers are welcome to join Keith on Thursday, either to paint alongside him or to simply have a chat with him whilst enjoying the garden.
