Amanda Harris, who some of you may remember completed a 146-mile cycle challenge in support of Horatio’s Garden Wales last year, is once again going on an incredible fundraising journey.

Since her spinal cord injury seven years ago, Amanda has thought almost every day about how easy it used to be to just step out the door and walk.

As she writes on her JustGiving page, things are not so simple anymore.

Walking is difficult, painful and exhausting and she needs crutches, orthotics, a wheelchair or a trike to get anywhere. She usually has a team of helpers nearby too.

Nevertheless, Amanda isn’t giving up on her dreams. One of these was to navigate all 871 miles of the Welsh Coast Pathso this is the challenge she’ll be attempting over the next three years.

Incredibly, Amanda will be using her ambition to raise vital funds for both our latest project, Horatio’s Garden Walesand Rookwood SPuR. Her hope is that the challenge’s timescale will ensure donations continue consistently trickle in, ensuring both charities are supported well into the future.

She has already begun recording her journey on Instagram, where she will be documenting the sections she successfully completes herself, capturing the friends and family who walk where she can’t and detailing any accessibility issues she encounters to thoughtfully build a resource for others.

With her challenge underway, there are numerous ways you can help!

1. Let Amanda know via Instagram about accessible sections of the path that she can traverse without too much help.

2. Get involved by walking inaccessible sections for her and tell her via Instagram that she can tick them off her list!

3. Lend practical help and support, such as walking with Amanda, pushing her chair, helping with transport and/or

4. Donate to one or both of the charities!

We are in awe of Amanda and are so grateful for her continued support. Anything you can give or do to help will make an enormous difference and we can’t wait to see where Amanda’s travels may lead her and you.
