Volunteers

We have a vibrant wonderful team of volunteers who bring different skill sets to the charity. Our volunteers support patients to use the garden, do the gardening, run and help with fundraising events, produce a magazine for patients, support and mentor younger volunteers (volunteens) and represent the charity at functions.

If you would like to join our team of volunteers please contact us for further information. We particularly welcome ex-patients of the spinal centre.

“Volunteering at Horatio’s garden and at the spinal unit has been not only a very useful and experience but also very enjoyable. All the fellow volunteers and the staff on the ward are very friendly and welcoming and made me feel part of the team. Many of the patients are fairly young and appreciated being visited by someone of similar age. Also because the patients are there for an extended period I was able to get to know them well, try to understand their situation and to assist them for example taking the patients down to Horatio’s Garden to be part of of all the activities that happen there. The spinal unit was busy and varied with lots of different treatments and a range of specialist staff this was very interesting and I learnt a lot. Any volunteer will gain a huge amount from assisting at Horatio’s Garden and for me it helped greatly with my application to medical school and was also very enjoyable.” Sebastian Powell, Volunteen 2015.
